科学是针对那些可观测和可测量的客观事实进行解释的一套系统方法。可观测和可测量的事实被称为经验（empirical）事实。科学研究就是利用这些科学的方法对事实进行研究的过程，它的特点是以事实为依据、以方法为手段。科学的最终落脚点是让事实说话、让数据说话，而不是要研究者自己说话。研究者只是事实的收集、整理、组织和分析者，而不应该是事实的承载者。社会科学也属于科学研究的范畴，也必须用数据来描述客观事实，用方法来分析数据，否则就不算是社会科学研究。本门课讲述的正是如何对定量数据进行分析的一般原理和方法，是从事社会科学研究的科研人员和高校师生学习将统计学运用于社会科学研究的基础性课程。本门课程将统计学原理与社会科学研究紧密结合，着重介绍统计方法的有效应用。其内容主要包括对社会调查资料进行描述和推断。在描述统计中介绍变量的分类、分组、频度、中心趋势、单变量特征的统计分析等；在推断统计中介绍抽样分布、总体参数的估计、总体参数的假设检验、显著性检验、交叉表的检验、独立样本的检验、方差分析、简单回归、多项回归和相关、因果模型和虚假关系的识别，等。通过本门课程的学习，学员们可以掌握统计学的基本概念和基本方法，并能够将其应用到自己的研究中去。本门课程是社会科学定量分析方法的第一门课。 |

Sciences are systematic methods for analysis on observable and measurable facts. Observable and measurable fact is called empirical fact. Scientific research is a studying process by using such methods. Its nature is that it depends on fact, studies by methods. Research can say something by facts and data, rather than by the researchers. As social sciences are one of aspects of sciences, it must use data to reflect fact, and use methods to analyze data. This course tells the general principles and methods and how to apply them to do data analysis. It is also a basic course for further learning other statistical methods for social research. Integrating the social research with principle of statistics, this course will focus on effective usage of statistics. Its contents cover descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Within descriptive statistics, we introduce the classification, grouping, frequency, central tendency, dispersion, single variable characteristics. Within inferential statistics, sampling distribution, estimates of population coefficients, hypothesis tests, significant test, test of relation using cross-table, one-sample test, ANOVA, simple regression and correlation, etc. By learning this course, students will master basic concepts and methods of statistics, and able to apply the methods to relevant research. This course is the first course for quantitative research of social sciences. |

本课程的目的，是让学生掌握统计学的基本原理和基本方法，特别针对单变量的描述和双变量关系的分析，为进一步学习多变量分析方法打下坚实的基础。
本课程共12讲，每一讲的具体内容如下：

3.中心趋势和离散程度测量
4.正态分布
5.统计推断原理
6.单样本和双样本差异的检验
7.多样本差异的检验
8.变量关系的分析
9.变量关系的描述

12.相关和回归分析
采用课堂教学的方式。由于学习时间紧、任务重，在每一讲结束后会留一部分习题，但不要求学生在上课期间完成作业。学生应该在学习期间，重点完成课件的阅读，并在每次课后，进行复习，但并不要求学习期间完成对教材的阅读。
闭卷考试，满分100分。
