英文名称 Global Environmental Health Problems: Principles and Case Studies
先修课程 English proficiency, general chemistry, basic statistics.
As many environmental problems occur on a global scale but may have differential local impacts, both local and global perspectives are important in understanding and addressing the problems. Through interactive approaches to be used in this course, students will be engaged in learning and thinking of most important contemporary environmental issues such as climate change, air pollution, water scarcity and pollution, waste disposal, soil contamination, and/or exposure to chemicals found in consumer products.
This course will be taught completely in English following teaching methods Professor Zhang uses to teach students at Duke university.  Students are required to actively participate in class discussions and in class projects. Grading will be based on homework, quiz/exams, class participation, and class project.

教学大纲 As many environmental problems occur on a global scale but may have differential local impacts, both local and global perspectives are important in understanding and addressing the problems. The objective of this course is to engage the students to learn and think of global and local impacts of most important contemporary environmental issues such as climate change, air pollution, water scarcity and pollution, waste disposal, and/or exposure to chemicals found in consumer products. Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to integrate fundamentals of physical, chemical, and/or biological processes into understanding case studies that address these problems. The course will also improve students’ skills to critically review the scientific literature.
Session 1:Course introduction and global environmental health
To introduce course objectives, the structure, and the participation from students.
To provide a knowledge framework for addressing environmental health problems.
Session 2:Introduction to environmental epidemiology
To explain the role of epidemiology in quantifying the health effects of environmental hazards
To introduce major epidemiological study designs
To present case studies of air pollution epidemiology
Session 3:Toxicology and environmental health
To introduce the concept of toxicology and its role in identifying environmental hazards.
Session 4:Air pollution
