本课为美国通史课，勾画18-20世纪美国历史发展的脉络，讲述美国经济、政治、法律、社会秩序的形成与演变，分析美国历史演进的动因、动力和机制，讨论美国与世界的关系。课程讨论的主题：北美殖民地的起源；殖民地时代的政治文化；独立战争与美国立宪；早期的市场革命、民主化与改革运动；奴隶制与废奴主义运动；内战与重建；工业化的进程及其代价；美国外交政策的演变；大萧条与美国式福利国家；民权运动与六十年代；冷战与美国利益的世界化。本课的目的是帮助学生了解美国和美利坚民族成长的历程，认识美国历史的复杂性和美国思想的历史含义，学会使用史学方法来观察和分析美国及其历史。本课以课堂讲授为主，鼓励学生参与课堂讨论。课程考核的内容包括：读书报告、期末考试、出勤与其他作业。 |

Designed to be a survey of the history of the United States, the course intends to outline the main currents of American history since the 18th century, describe the transformation of the nation’s economic, political, legal and social orders, analyze the dynamics and mechanisms involved in the nation’s historical developments and discuss the relations between the nation and the world. Topics to be covered include: the origins of English colonies in North America, political culture of American colonies in British America, the War of Independence and the making of the American constitutional order, market revolution, democratization of politics and reform in the early Republic, slavery and antislavery movement, the Civil War and Reconstruction, industrialization, the transformation of American foreign policy, the Great Depression and the origins of American welfare state, the Civil Rights Movement and 1960s, the Cold War and globalization of American national interests. The course intends to help students familiarize themselves with the evolution of the American state and nation, understand the complexity of American history and the historical implications of the American ideas, and learn to use historical perspectives and materials to study American history. The course will use lecture as the main media of instruction, but it encourages students’ participation. Final grade is based on book review, final exam, class participation and other assignments. |

本课的目的是帮助学生了解美国和美利坚民族成长的历程，认识美国历史的复杂性和美国思想的历史含义，学会使用史学方法来观察和分析美国及其历史。
本课为美国通史课，勾画18-20世纪美国历史发展的脉络，讲述美国经济、政治、法律、社会秩序的形成与演变，分析美国历史演进的动因、动力和机制，讨论美国与世界的关系。课程讨论的主题：北美殖民地的起源；殖民地时代的政治文化；独立战争与美国立宪；早期的市场革命、民主化与改革运动；奴隶制与废奴主义运动；内战与重建；工业化的进程及其代价；美国外交政策的演变；大萧条与美国式福利国家；民权运动与六十年代；冷战与美国利益的世界化。32学时将平均分配于各个主要讲题。
本课以课堂讲授为主，辅之以文献阅读和讨论，鼓励学生参与课堂讨论。
1. 课程考核：读书报告一篇（30%，具体规定见附录3）；（2）期末考试（55%）(内容包括论述题和简答题两部分)；（3）出勤与其他作业 （15%）。以上各项将根据开课情况进行调整。

学生应按时上下课，按要求完成指定的阅读材料、作业和期末考试。学生应自觉遵守学校关于学术规范和课堂纪律的规定。考试和作业中如有确认的剽窃、不诚实等学术不端行为，成绩一律以“不及格”计算。迟交的作业将按比例扣分。
