中文简介 本课程将帮助学生学习和了解中国(包含中国大陆以及香港、台湾等地区)新闻与传播事业的总体情况,以及中国新闻传播政策的演变过程及相关影响因素。此外,课程将分析中国各类媒体(包括印刷媒体、电子媒体以及新兴的网络媒体等)的发展过程及其与中国社会的互动关系,同时探讨中国媒体在海外的影响力,以及海外媒体在中国的情况及对中国社会的影响。课程讲授方式包括教师讲授、以及相关的小组讨论/参观考察等。
英文简介 This course offers a general overview of journalism and communications in China, with a focus on the Mainland China. Media in other parts of Greater China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan will also be addressed.  It will analyze the features, developments and impact of various media: print, TV, radio, online media, and social media like Weibo and Wechat. Based on an understanding of the development and current media landscape, the course will take a comparative look into the role of the media in Chinese society. It will also look at how China is perceived in and outside China through the prism of the media, as well as how the outside world is covered by Chinese correspondents.

本课程以教师讲授为主,辅以课堂讨论/参观考察。选课学生需要阅读相关的参考资料、接触中国的各类媒体信息,积极参与课堂讨论。
学生成绩由三个部分组成:课堂参与(25%)、阅读报告和课堂小测(25%)、期末小论文(50%)。
